KNOWLEDGE ABOUT TESTICULAR CANCER AND PRACTICE OF SELF-EXAMINATION: A STUDY WITH MEN IN A BASIC HEALTH UNIT

Abstract
of five cases for every 100 thousand individuals. Although rare, it is essential to promote knowledge about prevention and early diagnosis, considering the impacts on men's reproductive and psychological health. Objective: To describe the level of knowledge of men treated at a basic health unit in Rio Branco, Acre, about testicular cancer and the practice of self-examination. Method: Observational, cross-sectional descriptive study, with a quantitative approach, carried out with 120 men. Data were collected through a questionnaire on sociodemographic characteristics, knowledge of testicular cancer and self-examination practice. The information was digitized and verified in statistical software, with absolute and relative frequencies of the variables being calculated. Results: Of those interviewed, 25% were between 18 and 25 years old, 65% identified themselves as mixed race, 42.5% attended high school, 60.8% had a partner, 77.5% had paid work, and 34.2 % received up to the minimum wage. Regarding CT, 43.3% had heard of the disease, 5.9% knew its symptoms, 29.2% knew about prevention methods and 28.3% said they had performed a self-examination of the testicles at least once. Final Considerations: The results show the need for educational measures to increase knowledge about testicular cancer and facilitate access to health services, promoting awareness campaigns and encouraging self-care.
